Travelling to Michigan on Vacation

Michigan is a great place for a vacation. No matter what time of year you want to go there are always exciting options available. Whether you like dining, dancing, the theatre, sports or just experiencing the state’s natural beauty it’s all waiting just for you. Michigan offers access to the Great Lakes, quick trips to Canada and some of America’s oldest and best known cities. Michigan has fun for visitors of all ages. There are theme parks, lake cruises, interesting museums, historic sites, grand hotels and some of the most beautiful scenic vistas anywhere in North America. In fact, if you plan to stay for an extended amount of time, you might as well see if they have houses for rent so that you can really feel like a Michigan local while on vacation.

If you like automobiles Michigan has a couple of places you will love. One of them is the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn with nine acres of exhibits and artifacts. They range from a 1909 Model T Ford and a variety of other iconic automobiles to Edgar Allen Poe’s desk and the chair Abraham Lincoln was sitting in when he was assassinated. Be sure to visit the IMAX theatre.

The Motown Historic Museum is another Michigan ‘must see’. It traces the rise of Motown Records in Hitsville,, USA from an idea held by Berry Gordy to the largest independent label in the world. You can even visit Studio A where famous artists like The Jackson Five, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Rare Earth and many others laid down tracks the transformed the music industry.

Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit is the place to be. It is a huge civic space on the Detroit River. It hosts riverfront festivals all summer long, the Ford Detroit International Jazz Festival in the fall and ice skating during the winter. Its twisted spire and fountain are Detroit landmarks. People gather on the riverfront walkway to fish, stroll or enjoy the view of Canada. Traverse the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel, the first vehicular tunnel ever built linking two countries. You can enjoy tax-free shopping in the Duty-Free Zone on the Canadian side.

Belle Isle is the perfect place to take the family. This 1,000 acre island park has welcomed visitors to its yacht clubs, beach, picnic areas, aquarium, children’s zoo, conservatory, ball fields, handball courts, tennis courts, a golf course, ball fields, lagoons, old lighthouse, the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, gardens and woods with white-tailed deer for over 150 years. The evening light show at Scott Fountain with its grotesque gargoyles draws crowds every night.
