Fashion in Michigan depends on the financial ability of the person. Just about everyone wants to be fashion conscious, however, of all the states that have been hit hard with declining economy, foreclosures and job loses, Michigan has been right at the top of the list of hardest hit states. In this ever increasingly bad economy Michiganders are learning to prioritize. 99% of the time it is not due to a person’s preference, but of necessity. In Michigan, there seems to be no middle class anymore. A person is either in upper wage range or lower range. This seems to determine how fashion conscious a person is allowed to be.
In the last two years there have been more resale shops opening offering designers clothing at almost a 90% markdown. These clothing items most times look new, some still with price tags. People are finding they would rather pay $10.00 for a designer sweater then $90.00 with a mall’s 300% mark up in price. Low income families are able to cloth their children in designer clothing from a consignment store.
The flip side is the folks who earn a six figure or more salary in Michigan are able to purchase designer clothing new on racks in name brand stores, and do not mind to paying the 300% mark up at mall prices. Folks in this category are preparing for fashion shows in and around major cities. The people who can afford to be fashion conscious from Mi or Michigan have a focus on the I in Mi, or otherwise me, myself and I. Fashion in Mi is all about ‘Me’. The other focus is the handbag and color coordinating shoes to complement the stylish and sexy fashions in the news this year. Summer is revealing sexy high waisted shorts and shirts for summer.
For example, the New Cape Quarter held a cognac and fashion show this last November. The fashion ramp was built over the fountain and was spectacular, showing the new summer range of clothing. More fashion shows are promised with cocktail parties and TV news coverage. One thing that seems to be increasing in popularity is eco friendly fashions, such as green clothing, natural clothing items, hemp clothing, green jewelry accessories, and vegan shoes, and is becoming popular. Hippie clothing of the 1970′s are making a come-back and are cycling, becoming a very popular pick for 2012.
